Some of you may remember the play by Martineau Society member Valerie Doulton which was performed at the annual Martineau Society meeting in London in 2019.
The play has now been published. It explores the relationship between Charlotte Bronte and Harriet Martineau, two remarkable 19th-century women as we know, and the short-lived friendship between them. Both were very important pioneers in gender issues, feeling it necessary to publish and work in a male persona in order for their work to be recognised. For cover of book click here
