There have been two articles recently on Harriet Martineau’s role in the emancipation of slavery in the United States, mainly due the fact that Harriet is the great great great great great aunt of the Princess of Wales, the former Kate Middleton. The Birmingham Mail calls Harriet the ‘greatest American abolitionist’, and the Daily Mail article seems to be celebrating Kate’s antislavery heritage in the face of accusations of racism in the Royal Family by Harry and Meghan.
